Fixed the Manual Hub Nut Problem

Old School post! This mod kept my wheel bearings alive with big tires but when I locked up the front I couldn't keep manual hubs alive so that is when I went to a Dana 44.

When I torqued the piss out of the outer nut the keyed lock washer would thread itself onto the spindle and turn the inside nut ruining the whole setup.

Captain obvious- how do you go about removing those nuts when you need to service things

:salute:
I just used the hub socket with a breaker bar and they came right off ..I did this a couple time and never had any problems and blue loctite is not permanent just temporary..I also completely rebuild the ford warn hubs and that's why I know that this works ...

I just run the outer locknut down to 250 ft-lbs instead of the 150 the books call for. Never have had one come loose (no Loctite or anything else needed).

Yup that's the solution, no need to modify anything. never had any problems with mine.

saw this and thought i would add what i found. stage 8 sells a spindle nut locking system that works on the dana 35 and 44. costs about $140 through offroad design.

heres a link

It will not work on the TTB 35 because the locking hub/hat doesn't fit over the stage 8 assembly.

interesting. on the stage 8 website it says it fits dana 35 provided you have the warn hub conversion kit. from what i understand that consists of the standard warn dana 35 hubs and dana 44 spindle nuts. the kit itself "looks" smaller than the dana 44 spindle nuts.

is there another dana 35 i am not thinking of? i thought the jeep 35 had c clips for retention. not trying to be ****y just want to make sure i am wrong if thats the case. will do some searching too make sure, as well.

I may have spoken too soon...there was a thread awhile back where someone tried to fit a Stage 8 lock nut system for a D44 on a TTB 35 and it wouldn't work because the "hat" wouldn't fit over the locknut.

I believe at the time of that thread the D44 and the D60 were the only locknut systems available from Stage 8. Looks like they have more axles covered now.

kewl. after doing some searching it looks like there was an old warn dana 44 locking hubnut with allen screws that wouldn't fit in the dana 35ttb hub either.

I took the regular manual lock nut kit and drilled 2 holes in the outer lock nut. Tapped the holes and ran allen head set screws. I didn't use them on my truck but i never heard a complaint from the guy i did it for. And yes i used a grinder and cut down 1/16 in to get through the hardened steel.

Haven't had that issue myself, though I have occasionally heard of it happening to others (even just going to 150 ft-lbs).

A solution for that is here in this thread if needed.
