So last night, I start up the truck, the DTRL come on, then after 10 seconds start to flicker, then 5-10 seconds later turn off completely.

So I turn the headlights on, and they're nice and bright.

I turn them off again. The DTRL come back on. Nice! Well then they flicker and turn off again a few seconds later.

I'm terrible with electrical problems. Where should I look first to fix the flicker?!

your module is likely going gone bad. Driver's side front bumper area.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say about the mirror... the power mirrors work fine.

What's the module called... I'll replace it.

On the rear view mirror there should be a slide lever that controls the day time running lights. You can change the how long the lights stay on after you get out. If you slide it all the way to I think the left it turns the day time lights off and the delay off.

The mirror "thing" only applies IF you have the autolamps feature. IF not, then your DRL module is a problem.

i dont have that dimmer option on the rear view mirror.

can someone post a picture of the DRL module please?

Definitely sounds like a DRL module gone bad. It's a common problem with Explorers (take it from a Canadian...they're mandatory up here).

Either get a new one or just disconnect it.

The daytime running light module is located behind the driver's side headlamp, mounted to the radiator support. You can get a new one from the Ford dealer.

Is this the module at RockAuto?

1998 FORD EXPLORER 4.0L 245cid V6 MFI (X) : Electrical-Switch & Relay : Daytime Running Light Relay: Part # DRL1

EDIT: Found the module. It's caked in dry cement like mud. I cleaned it off and got a good view of things. The female connector is cracked slightly. I removed and cleaned the connections and applied some electrical grease but no good. I cant tell if its the module or the connector or both. I'll have to disconnect the thing for now because it's not cheap to replace.

Doesn't look like mine (then again, I forget what it looks like since it's been years since I disconnected it to use HIDs). I'd definitely look at OEM (i.e. dealership and a Ford part) to make sure you're getting the right one.
