Installed the Flowmaster 50 series muffler on my '98 Sport yesterday. Used 2.5" tubing and a single exhaust finishing in a chromed 3" angle cut tip.
It looks really bad ass but I was hoping for a bit more of a performance upgrade. It is definately a lot louder than the stock muffler and resonates a bit loud in 2-3rd gear around 3000+ rpm. It does quite down though to a nice drone at cruising speeds.
This muffler was dealer suggested to me as being relatively quite compared to the other flowmasters and it is more than twice as loud as stock- so those thinking of an upgrade do your research, if I had it to do over again I probably would have used the 70 series.
My drawback was that I did not experience the added power I thought I would. I thought the muffler system would really let the Volant intake do its thing and it hasn't. I noticed a much better performance gain from the intake kit. They both cost about the same to install around $250.
The overall throttle response is much better and the truck leaps off the line with the 4.10 Dif but mid and high end seems the same. Also I think the added power has messed up the failing valve body in my 5R55E tranny.
