My parents of 05 mountaineer and it sprung a leak from somewhere betwwen the back the motor and the front part of the transmission while they were climbing a grade. There was what seem to be steam coming out from under the truck and left a small puddle maybe 3 inches in diameter. However there was no code or sensor issue temperature was fine, fluid levels are all great. So they drove it the rest of the way home which was still a 3 hour trip. Everything seems fine... So we get under the truck today and the bottom half of the drivers side of the transmission is covered in a light transparent redish brownish fluid that has no smell and does not leave a oilly feeling on your fingers... I'm assuming it is coolant... However, we started it and left it running in the driveway for about 45 min and no leak or nothing... Any idea on what this might have been???

Apparently, according to the Ford dealer in town, the transmissions on these vehicles now have a pressure release valve... He says most likely what happened was the transmission overheated on the climb and popped the pressure valve to release some of the pressure...

When did they start putting pressure release valves on the transmissions???
