Hi, I just replaced the starter after hearind a scraping noise that started a week earlier. The new starter seemed to eliminate the noise totally for three or four days then it stareted scraping again but three times louder than usual. Does it about every 5th startup or so.
I'd appreciate some feedback. Thanks!

Im having almost the same problem. but mine makes a knocking sound when its idling. i got under it with a pc of hose and checked under oil pan and trans pan, its right in between motor and trans.. Any ideas?

Terrymac, just what do you mean by "scraping sound"? First check the bolts for being tight.

2009KVFD976, sounds like you have a cracked flexplate.

Thanks for the reply!! I just put a tranny in it mid feb.. How does the flexplate crack?? It has about 165k mi on it. Is it just old or was something done wrong?

Tough to say what causes the flexplate to crack. Could have been a misalignment when you reinstalled the torgue convertor. Tightened bolts all at once instead of crisscross pattern, age fatigue, defect when stamped at factory, hard to say. I had a Chevy p/u that cracked two flexplates within just a few months. That was 30 years ago, so I dont remember the cause. And, that may not be whats wrong, but thats where I would look.

Got under it and took starter out today. turns out torque converter nuts came loose. noise is gone...
