I was looking at getting some sort of aftermarket lighting, but then I thought about how I never have my fog lights on; wouldn't it be nice to have the brightness of a small light bar with a switch already built in? I'd like to just try a new bulb for the fog lights to start with since that seems like a clean solution to me, rather than routing wiring for light bars and stuff. It also helps considering one of my bulbs burnt out, so I need to replace it anyways. I found some by Philips, but haven't found anything else that's promising that will also fit a 2nd gens fog lights. I'd also like some really bright amber bulbs. Has anyone done this? It just doesn't seem like there are bulbs out there that are going to be as bright as an aftermarket light accessory. I'm also restricted in where they're pointed from what I can tell; maybe I could put some washers on the housing to try and angle it the way I want.

Here's the philips bulbs I'm talking about

I care more about brightness than color temperature, so if there's some super bright LEDs or some other bulb type, but it's only in white, that is okay with me.

I just bought a light pod (the little offroad ones) and mounted it where the stock fog bracket went. Now I rund edicated fogs (I can check where I got them). But the light pods were bright & cheap.

Were you able to use the wiring and stuff from the fog lights? So you can just use the fog light button to turn em on and not have to install anything else?

I think so? iirc it was just 2 wires, so I thikn so? I can't remember for sure, but I don't see why not.

You will never get the results with just a bulb change compared to some sort of LED bar or pod.

I have the rectangular fog lights on my 96. I swapped one side for a small Rigid Industries LED bar. Wiring was discussed with @Turdle, and he suggested just wiring it to the OEM harness.

Nice! I might just have to do that, I was more interested in the bulb thinking it'd be cheaper and I had to do it anyways; but it looks pretty comparable in terms of difficulty. I'll have to look and see which ones I can just use with the stock wiring. I don't need it to be blinding, just wanted to see if I could go brighter than what I have now/high beams kinda blow.

They mounted pretty easily/similarly to the stock fog lights?

Drilled two holes on top of OEM bracket, and carved out on the back for the Rigid plug.

Trimming the valence was pry the hardest part…

I put an led bulb in mine. They were like 10x bighter than the original. I used them as a form of drl. I don't remember the brand but thay were plug and play.

You can't get good throw with the stock fog lamp housing, reflector in it just isn't designed to throw far no matter which bulb you put in.
