I bought myself a set of driving lights that are currently mounted on the bumper. I wired them through the fender past the door hinge and into the cabin. My mechanic said that it is going to start a fire because the wire housing is getting pinched. I looked at the wires and they arent getting pinched but the blue housing but they are just being wired in an S turn movement. So i am thinking that he thought the blue housing was the wires and they are getting pinched as bad as the housing.

Will a pinched wire really cause a fire?
Is there a better way to wire through the fire wall?(show thread if there is one)

I hope you arent running the two main power wires for the lights directly into the cab of the truck?

You should use a relay that comes on with your low beams or a switch.

Never run those wires inside the cab.

no the two power wire are hooked up to the battery so i can run them without the parking lights(to sneak into trails);)

right under the brake booster on the firewall is a rubber grommet , a much better place to run wires, ,
and the wires should just be to power the relay , i hope,

how do i hook up the wires to the driving lights or to the parking lights. The ends of the lights are in the shape a circle which are on the battery pos terminal. They are running to a switch as of now that came with the lights.

do you mean there are ring terminals on the ends of the wires to the lights?

yes. Is those the ends i hook up to the driving lights parking lights or driving lights in the stock vehicles lights?

Are still planning to run the wires straing into your cab from the battery. You can still power a relay without having to put on any lights. You can then power up your trail lights safely.

ok but there is NO way i can start a fire if the wires are pinched or can i?

You should definitely stay away from the fender edges and the door area, too much movement and yes it can cause a fire.

how bout using the factory wiring. it should be there if your truck didn't come with fogs. just need a switch, or a radio bezel with a switch already in it, and the wires from the plug near the frame, and to the lights.

vroomzoom you are in Manitoba, , how close to winnipeg?? i live just a few hours east of there ..near kenora ontario, ,

Hey Sandy how far are you from Boston? I am in Milford which is near Foxboro.

This isn't on topic but approximately 40 mile north, Gloucester.
I was in Milford on Saturday looking at a really nice Ranger.

vzb has the right idea, if the stock wiring is there use it but it is easy to set up either way new wiring or old.

Just stay away from pinched wires and metal to metal contact with wire in-between.

well it cant really be ran off the stock lights because it is fog lights that run off of an H3 bulb and then the choice of running LED's that change seven different colors so there is a switch with two buttons that run both. So i will just have to run it through the fire wall through something.

Are you saying that you want the lights to come on with the parking lights? It is really simple to do this but you will probably need to modify the way you have it wired.

There is a very small area to run wires through on my 98 but it is really hard to get to or run ANYTHING through. I had to cut my own hole for my sub. wiring.
