Hi There, new to the forum. I have used this site for getting some great information and am hoping someone can help me with my explorer proble. I have a 2001 Explorer Limited 5.0. I cannot get the foglights to work. I have replaced the fuses in the interior and both in the engine compartment all to no avail. I have also replaced the bulbs and the switches. It is drivinging me bonkers. On another note my rear window wiper will not spray or work and not sure if the problem is related in some strange way.

first thing you should do before replacing bulbs and such, is check the fuses

That was the first thing I did.

On my 95 they only work on low beams, I don't know about the 2001.

Since you have checked the fuses does the little green light light up on the fog light switch when you turn them on? If not I would check the power to the switch, if you have it there you could have a bad switch.

The little green light does not light up, I did have my headlights on. I also had extra switches and replaced them as well. I will have to pull apart the dash again to check for power. Should there be power at the switch at all times?

There should only be power there with the headlights on and on low beam. It is possible the bulb is burned out on that little indicator light, but if it doesn't light I would check for power to the switch.

Thanks I will give that a shot tomorrow.

I have checked both fuse boxes and I do have the owners manual.

There is also a relay in the relay box under the air filter box. that relay could be bad.

Here's the location:

Thanks for the info. I have changed the relay in the aux. box 1 already. I have power to the switch inside, when the switch is depressed it does not turn on the lights and the indicator on the switch does not light up either. I had read in one of the threads about a module that can go. Does anyone know of this module and where it is located.

If you power at the switch then follow this diagram and see where you're losing power. The switch has power to it all the time and it goes to ground to activate the relay. The relay closes and sends power to the fog lights and the switch light. There is also the isolation relay too. The fog lamp relay gets its power from that.

Thanks a bunch, it is getting dark now so I will have to trace the wires tomorrow. Again thanks for the diagram.
