Ok.... what's the deals here. I replace my fog light bulbs about once every 2 weeks, and now I've just given up. About every 2 weeks one of em just blows up. Is this common or am I just screwed?

I thought maybe water was getting in there and the change in temp was blowing them, so I tried to caulk up the seal where the lens meets the plastice housing, and that didn't work... any other ideas?

It almost looks like the bulb is slamming into the lens and blowing it up. If no one has any ideas I'm gonna go to walmart and buy some whole new fog lights.

are these on your 520's or your stock fog lights? I've never heard of such a thing happening unless something was goofy with the wiring, but even then it typically wouldn't "explode" the bulb. I'd check the wiring for any exposed wiring and make sure you aren't getting a short somewhere.

When I used my stock fogs, the bulbs would burn out very often. Sometimes in a few months, sometimes a few days. I got tired of changing the bulbs and just got some aftermarket fog lamps. I haven't turned my factory fogs on in 2 years.

BTW, I inspected all the factory wiring, the fog lamp housings, etc and couldn't find a reason for them to keep burning out. I think they're just very sensitive to vibration and bumps and also the temp change when the housing gets splashed with water.

I have a 95, so the bulbs are the 898 or 989 or whatever, I can't remember.

I think I am just going to go buy a cheap pair. Any suggestions?? I want to have a blue tint is possible. Can I just get 55w fog lights and splice the wiring, or should I take the time to wire it right?

Thanks

take the time and wire them properly... pepboys has some good looking "diamond blue" lights... i saw them on a friends 4runner

Since we've had our 1996, we've replaced one fog light once. For the first four years we'd run the fogs always with the headlights but since I had the PIAA 9007s, I only run the headlights (the fogs look ugly compared to the white). I guess I was just lucky.

I had the same problem with one of my stock fogs about a couple years back. Took it to Ford, and they replaced the section of wiring harness that plugs into the back of the bulb. Never had a problem with it after, but replaced them with PIAA's last year.
