Fogging windows in 2002 Explorer

well it was -21 this morning in Chicago and in my 42 miles commute I scraped the inside of my side windows 2 times to get the ice off of them. They fogged up so bad it turned to ice. I tried to get the front vent to hit them but then the windshield would freeze up right away....Not FUN..

I know someone might say that it was way to cold, but 99% of the other cars on the road had no issues with frosted/fogged windows.
I am no longer thinking this is annoying, it is dangerous!!!
Should I try to contact someone from Ford, what do we do, what are some options?

It almost never gets that cold out here in Mass, but my Ex doesn't seem that bad. I think you have answered your own question, it is dangerous if you have that much trouble dealing with it. It would not hurt to bring it in to a Ford dealer. If you don't like what they say, leave and go somewhere else. If you want to take the heater core out of the equation, I would think that you could have the whole system pressure tested. Are you sure the carpet is all dry? Good luck. I also have the same fogging problem on my 02 explorer. I have checked the water circulation and it seems fine. I have checked all of the vac switches and they seem fine. I have no evidence of water or moisture in the cab. I am stumped. I called a couple Ford service dept with no help.

My guess is that it has to be a fresh air problem. I will keep investigating and hopefully come up with the solution soon.

I also have the inside window fogging problem with my '04. Regarding a heater core leak, you would see the level in the overflow tank dropping (it isn't that big) if anything was leaking - mine hasn't changed from the level it was when I got the Ex 6 months ago.

A way around the problem seems to be driving with a window down 1/2 inch or so. I'd guess that the system is not taking in enough outside air and recirculating too much. Leaving a window cracked open compensates for that by mixing in outside (dry) air. My Ex has lots of heat, so unless I'm doing 70 MPH, it's very comfortable inside with the window down a little, even on the 0 degree days we've had.

Same issue here. I blocked off the recirculating door opening when that broke last spring. Maybe I caused my own problem. But I too have an issue with the heater and defroster not blowing correctly, even with a new blend door. I can now push the AC button on when turned to heat but not defrost. Anyone make any progress with this?
