my wife's 08 XLT didn't have factory sub and she wanted a little extra kick. I grabbed a stock housing from a pick n pull for $15, snagged a Polk MM 8" 4 ohm sub, and this little bity amp:

This thing is tiny but packs quite a punch. 5" x 5" x 1.5" so it fits right where the factory and did.
I don't like line out convertors (to modify the speaker level signal to RCAs) so I bought that little amp which has speaker level inputs as well as RCAs. I simply matched up the 2 positive inputs together and then the 2 negative inputs together and used a pair of T-taps into the stock sub harness for signal. I had some 8ga power wire hanging around, so ran that in the passenger side door sill channel. Simple ground to a bolt in the body and done. The amp claims to accept 8ga wire but it does NOT! Simply add a spade connector to the 8 ga power and ground wires. Since it has 2 inputs for power and ground the spade connector fits it nicely.
Amp comes with a corded remote, which i ran back through to the glove box. Easy to turn the sub up and down from there.
This little guy pounds the hell out of that Polk 8" sub. Nice deep, low bass, hits hard and is plenty loud. Did have to heat up the back of the enclosure with a heat gun and flex it a touch to fit the sub in. Literally have to flex the back of the enclosure about 1/4" if that.
