ford 4.0 trans failure? AA wants comments

The best explanation yet! I think we got it!!!

This dagram shows exactly what we need. Now we just need to know EXACTLY where to put those resistors to to replace the solenoids. I am also thinking we should throw the diodes in the circuit as well as I am sure they act a shunt of some sort to prevent shorting anything out. Any electrical engineers out there?

New topic

Let's start a new topic. I know people have had a problem shifting the t-case into low after doing an auto to manul tranny swap. I think it was due to input parameters to the 4wd shift computer not being met. To shift into low, what parameters must be met and where do they come from? I am trying to solve a problem before it becomes one, if it is one. Any ideas?

Prameters

first you must be 4 high already
then you must be in neutral, this is the one that probably gets them.
And you cannot be moving. V.S.S. signal=0
I think there is one more, but I,m tired and hot,all is getting fuzzy:confused: LOL later.
 






I am not sure how they are tracking this but they are using this as a tool to see how much interest there is in this product. Go here to see a little info on it and then shoot them an e-mail and ask questions. That should prove there is a market for this product.

Tranny Suck

I'm on my second Mazda 5 speed tranny and I think I've mangled it while I was rock crawlin last weekend. I need something else. What the Hell was Ford thinking putting this tranny behind the 4.0? Oh wait I forgot Explorers aren't for hard core wheelers they are for Soccer moms. Ford get your S!@# together and give us something we can use. Ok I'll hop off the soap box. Any suggestions out there?
 






I know this is getting a little ahead here. But is AA going to work on a manual Tranny swap as well. After the 700R4. My Explorer is an auto and my Navajo is a manual. I am interested in the 700R4 swap for my Explorer but I want to keep the manual Tranny in my Navajo.
 






There is no need for the resistors!

I unplugged the harness from the transmission and drove for one whole day. 150 miles. No codes and no check engine light. Igot terrible fuel milage and 3000 rpm at 63 mph. It was embarassing but I stuck it out to see what would happen.
 






I drove the Explorer al the way back to WA state with the 700 in it and it never through a code. The only plug modified was the one with the nuetral safety switch and the t-case signals. The smaller plug with two wires was left untouched and unconnected. That is the plug that controls the 3 to 4 shift and the TC lockup.
 






700R4

Wish my Explorer had Ford paint and interior with a 4.0L and a 700R4 and a NP208. That would be so bullet proof. The 700R4 rocks! In a litte SUV like an explorer it would go forever. I used my 700R4 vigorously in my 88 Blazer with no fear of it failing. Sux that Ford can't even keep there freaking vehicle driving as a pavement pounder without it failing. I need to replace my tranny but I'm afraid a rebuild will fail within a few years. grrrr, so pissed!
 






Swap to a manual, buy a 700r4 kit, or sell the truck. If you think you are pissed now, wait till it goes in 20K after a $2,000 rebuild.
 






What's the status of this kit Kevin? Is Advanced geared up to sell them yet?

Well, a Friday is a pretty hard day to get any answers, but I will call Monday and see what info I can pump out of Vic. I am not sure where they are at but I am definately pleased with the outcome. I hope that they start producing and selling soon. I am still waiting on my copy of the installation instructions.

this sounds like a cool idea, i may be jumping in wayyyyyy late but i have a a4ld (auto trans 94 exp) with 150k on it and it just leaks a little bit, otherwise works fine...KNOCK ON WOOD. i change fluid/filter every year. however i would be interested in a better auto trans, prehaps some more "UMPH!" to it. 700r4 sounds good...AOD?? huh? not sure oin what that is, i assume its a tranny. i would want to stay auto though.
