This is very embarrassing day to be a Ford owner. We have an '11 Explorer Limited, with every option.

Only trouble is that it is BROKEN in the driveway and UNABLE TO BE FIXED for an UNDETERMINED amount of time! Must be some exotic and odd failure right?? Nope!!! - Rear brake calipers, that are fully unavailable from Ford at the moment and not available in the aftermarket yet either.

Ford is ZERO help, including a call to the mighty Customer Service line. Time "guesstimates" for when calipers MIGHT be ready range from 2 weeks to 2 months or more! WTF. So glad I bought this thing and not a properly engineered and supported vehicle. Very(!!!!) disappointed. This is not the first issue I've had with this vehicle, but the others have been fairly minor and this one is literally meaning we are without this fairly new vehicle - well done Ford. I live in a high traffic area and everyone sees this thing sitting dead in the driveway now. Nice shiny and white and BROKEN.

Let me tell you who actually helped today: A local GM dealer!! My father in-law who knows the parts manager there called and he sourced a rebuilder in Edmonton (and we're in Ontario). So, we are still paying 3 times what they are worth and still have to wait a week to get them, and somehow a GM dealer was able to help us when Ford was fully unable. Oh well - just the brakes right? Not a serious safety concern.... This is SAD.:thumbdwn:

Hi Coffey454,

Let me see how I can help. Please send me a private message with your full name, phone number, VIN, current kilometres, and dealer’s name/location; I’d like to review your available options.

Saskia

How did you wear out the rear brakes already? I have over 88,000 miles on my 2011 Limited with all original brake pads and rotors. You towing something?

Thanks... I do see that they appear have remans available at Rockauto (although I did not call to verify, and several online sellers that have them listed but are actually fully out of stock).

Price is not better than the remans that are coming from Edmonton, so I'll still have them shipped in... I have sent a PM to customer service so we'll see if they can help. Ford dealer said list price was 72.49 for the unavailable new ones. Unreasonably I had hoped to replace the calipers with new units.

That is what I thought too... Too new to have this kind of an issue.
We tow nothing. This is a light duty commuter vehicle for my wife. with 75% highway use.
Brake failure was caused by the caliper seizing on the rear passenger side. I thought it was just a pads/rotors issue, never had a vehicle this new with a stuck caliper...
Front brakes still look good.

Service Dept lost a retaining clip on door ....... Took a week to have it shipped as it was backordered. A 5 cent metal clip unavailable for a $40,000+ veh.

My 2012 Limited has been flawless (now 2 years old with over 33,000 km) and I'm sure there are many others out there with the same experience as me and even you...sorry about your luck, but your experience with your vehicle certainly doesn't represent the masses out there who also own one....
Your comments of frustration are just a little over the top IMHO....And unless you have a sign on your vehicle stating that it is broken down (in your high traffic area)...no one will have a clue if it is or not....you could be a shift worker for all they know......relax.....

Thanks for your comment, and I wish you the best of luck with your vehicle. We have loved our truck, and my wife is upset to be without it. It looks great and has all the toys - but - this to me downtime due to no parts on a high-volume production vehicle is a serious concern.
Calipers should not fail this soon. Calipers, if failed, should be accessible for necessary repairs.

With only 33kms you are too early to pass long-term judgement. Surely ours is a higher mileage example (96kms) and will likely experience issues first. Regardless of how many people have good experiences, it is not acceptable to have service parts reasonably available. My initial post was strongly worded.

"5 cent clip" must be from a 1965 parts book. "5 cent clip" thru Ford dealer today = $30....LOL

Truck is fixed. I really hope Ford gets their service parts supply sorted out very soon. We love this truck and hope to keep it for a long-time and will surely need available parts as it continues to age.

Hi Coffey454,

I just replied to your other post congratulating you on getting back on the road with your Explorer. :)

If you ever have any questions or concerns, I'm happy to assist.

Bianca
