I got a O/D flashing and "Check Transmission" message on the panel then it appears the gear is shifting lower (max speed I could go at usual engine speed was only about 40 mph). And the reverse gear is not engaging i.e. when I put the shift in reverse the vehicle does not move. I took the car to Ford maintenance and they tell me the transmission has to be inspected to identify the problem and said depending on what is wrong it could cost anywhere between USD 2K to 3K. A few days before this happened I noticed the reverse gear was not engaging at idle speed and upon slighly revving up this was engaging with a jerk that was all I noticed as some abnormality before the problem as said above occured. Could anyone please advise. This is a 2005 model 4X4, 6 cylinder and done about 83,000 miles so far.
