Ford Explorer 4x4 Problems

I have a 1992 Explorer XLT 4x4 and when I press the for 4x4 the button light comes on but the its still only using the back wheels and when moving I can hear a clicking noise as I drive. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

its the hubs, take off the auto ones, replace them with the warn maual hub kit

Are you sure they will work? I did the See if it fits your vehicle and it said it does not.
