2000 ford explorer sport
Guys my 2000 explorer sport has started making a rattle at idle. I know its coming from front chains. The chain was replace 65000 miles ago with oem ford parts. The explorer has 182,000 miles on it and runs like new (except for chain) and i would like to get at least another 4 years out of it. Can anyone recommend a timing chain kit that doesnt cost $500 like ford oem parts. I see a bunch of kits on ebay and amazon but was hoping maybe someone has tried one and could tell me whats out there that doesnt cost a arm and leg.

Did you replace the tensioners when you did the chains? A new set of tensioners should be swapped in every 60K or so miles and make sure you get the new steel gaskets from Ford for them. They should quiet things down at idle.

I've seen about 10 different sets from oem ford, cloyes, and what you see on Amazon and ebay. None are as good as OEM ford. Cloyes is second best and I wouldn't suggest the rest. If it sounds too cheap it probably is for a reason.
