Hi all, is there any good DIY for a rear end diff rebuild/fix? I consider myself a good mechanic and think this is in my skillset. I have the rear end whine and looking for assistance.

It's been a long time, but I do recall someone creating a thread when they rebuilt their rear end. If I can find it, I'll link it up.

Edit: I take that back. It was the rear pinion seal replacement I was thinking of.

Edit again: Remembered the rear locker install, so this may be as close as we get: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=318076

They whine frequently. Usually not requiring fixing for many thousands of miles.

Mine's been whining for the last 100,000 miles and usually one or two drops from the 2-piece seal will be seen on the ground. It's an annoyance more than an issue for me, so I haven't done anything about it. Depending on what I do with this this, I'll either sale as is or fix her back up for several more years of use.
