Ford Remote Start Accessory

Greetings,

I have a '13 XLT on order and due in at the beginning of August. I'm thinking about having remote start installed at the dealer but am a bit confused at which is the best/correct on for my vehicle which will have MFT. I've read a few other threads but am still confused...... The Ford website lists 4 different systems for the 2013 Explorer:

1. Remote Start System - Bi-Directional Plug-N-Ply (BB5Z-19G364-E)
2. Remote Start System - 200 Series Plug-N-Play (BB5Z-19G364-D)
3. Remote Start System - 100 Series Plug-N-Play (BB5Z-19G364-A)
4. Remote Start System - Long Rang Plug-N-Play (CL3Z-19G364-B)

The most important feature for me is that it needs to integrate with the MFT/Driver information center. I asked my dealer which unit they install and he said it was the Ford Remote Start Bronze..... he is going to try and find out which model number it is since that doesn't correlate to any shown on the website. Any input from folks that have had any of these installed would be great.

Hi Brent. Even though you don't have the factory installed Remote Start, I assume that the options are still there in the left hand screen.
Settings/Vehicle Settings/Remote Start/Climate Control and Duration.
I'm guessing that the vehicles all show the settings whether they are active or not.
Good luck.

Any ideas?

Anyone have experience with any of these Ford remote start systems?

Thanks.

I looked inside my key fob and it doesnt say which one it is...it has B**T-19H316-*. So it seems to "sensor" the numbers that say which model it is, so I can't help you there. I will say that while the remote start is nice, I do not like the distance on it. I cannot start it while in my office and have trouble getting it to start from inside a store (IE I try and start it in the check out lane and it does not start. Usually it wont even start from the front doors of a store, unless I am parked right in front) Kind of a bummer since the car will obviously not be warmed up/cooled down in the short time it takes me to walk to the car from the front door of where ever I am parked.

Mine was not factory installed, well I take that back, not factory 'set up' as the dealer informed me they all come with remote start you just pay pretty much for the keyfob (which I ended up getting free since they LIED and said I could purchase Navigation after the fact...and as you can tell yes I am still VERY irritated that I do not have navigation).

Extra KeyFob

Great amount of information here.... I might install one myself once my Explorer comes in next week.

Quick question, can additional/replacement KeyFobs be purchased for the BB5Z-19G364-E system? Can someone with this system check if this is addressed in the user manual?

Many Thanks.

Will the integration of climate control during remote starting work on a base model?
And does the base model come with a hood switch? Thanks.

I've read on some other forums that the bi-directional remote start has some issues on other Ford models, specifically ones that have MyKey. Apparently the vehicle will shut down as soon as the door is opened or when the key is inserted into the ignition. It's some type of conflict with the MyKey system from what I've read.

Can anyone with MyKey and this remote start system confirm if the vehicle stays running after you open the door and insert your key in the ignition?

I installed and had my system activated yesterday. I can confirm that my 2013 did come from the factory with a hood switch. I can also confirm that you can open the door and insert the key into the ignition without the remote start shutting down.

I noticed today that the blowers for the A/C only seems to really work for the rear of the vehicle, meaning the vents on the dash are pushing just a tiny bit of air while air is rushing out of the vents on the ceiling behind me in the driver's seat. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm wondering if this is how the system is supposed to work...

How the A/C system works after a remote start depends on how you set it up under 'Vehicle Settings' in the left hand instrument panel screen. You can either choose auto, where the car will choose the settings, or you can choose last, where it simply sets the controls where you had them last. You can set the climate control and the cooled/heated seats separately (they only have an auto or off setting if my memory serves). Make sure the settings are correct for how you want your system to act when remotely started.

We have ours set to last setting. If we are going to leave the car in the sun for an extended time, before I turn the car off, I turn the rear A/C to its coldest and the fan to the highest. I do the same for the front A/C, making sure to turn the Recirculation off. The cooled seats are set to auto. I have found that this gives the best results for cooling the car on hot southeast Texas summer days. Oh, and I have the quiet start turned off so it cools down quicker.

Thanks for the info, VinceL :) I've just had all the settings on 'Auto' thus far. It hasn't really been an extreme enough climate either way since I got the remote start installed, so I'll have to fine tune it when it gets cold and see what I like best.

Cory,
Could I get some assistance with this whole remote start discussion... I've talked to more than my fair share of dealers about remote starts and each one is a completely different story. I have a 2011 XLT (w/ lifegate) and I want the remote start added. Based on the specs and your recommendations, I want the 200 Series Plug n Play added. The dealership that I'm currently working with has the part in inventory now (after ordering the wrong one and finding out when my car was an hour at home sitting in their service bay waiting on the install). Online, you can purchase it for $355.71. You can also select a dealer quote or get it priced out online through some and see the total price. The dealer I was working with adds on $30+ in installation and sales tax for around a $400 bill. Today, I get my call from them and they say no, no, no, it's 3+ hours of labor, running wire for a transmitter, yadda yadda yadda and it's really going to be $540ish. Can you explain what the deal is with me being able to "Buy it installed" on the website from one of 4 different dealers locally? If I go ahead and try this, I'm going to wait my games and then get told my purchase online was wrong and it's really $100+ more. Any help you can provide is appreciated, I'm exhausted from this process.

Not to hijack this thtead, but I have a question about adding remote start to Explorer 2012 XLT...

guest2 & SterlingGrayXLT,

I’m sorry I missed your update, guys. I sent off a note to my technical adviser and I’ll post when I hear back.

guest2 & SterlingGrayXLT,

My tech adviser said some vehicles can have remote start added using the 4 button factory key. Unfortunately the Explorer is not one of them. The vehicles that do it will show it even on the Ford Accessories website. Here are the remote starts compatible with the 2011MY & 2012MY Explorers:

http://Accessories.Ford.com/vehicles/Explorer/2011/electronics/remote-start.html

http://accessories.ford.com/vehicles/Explorer/2012/electronics/remote-start.html

He also said for an Explorer to use the factory 4 button remote, it would have to be factory installed, not an accessory install. For pricing, this would be between the dealer and you. You have the option to have it installed at another dealer as well.

Are you talking about this one?

This was dealer installed on my MY2011 XLT Explorer before I picked it up?

I sent a follow-up note to my adviser, 182RG.

Edit: Yes, he said this wasn’t factory installed.

Cory,
I too have been looking at all my options for an accessory installed remote start, any suggestions for a 2013 Explorer XLT with My Ford Touch/Sync. Also if I have read all previous entrys correctly any remote start purchased will add an additional fob, my current 4 button key cant have the remote start added to it. Thanks for your input.

I’m double checking with my technical adviser on these, Marc. :)
