I had a hard time trying to find out where I was going to mount my amp. It was pretty big (1100w) and wasn't going to fit underneath any seats. I didn't want to just mount it on the floor, because it would get in the way if I ever wanted to use the cargo space.

Then I thought I would see what space the factory amp and woofer took up. I tore everything apart, and it fit right in!

Took some pics so everyone can get an idea. The project took about 5 hours, including going to the store to pick up some wiring. Only bad thing is, I didn't know that where the factory sub is, the panel doesn't pop out...So mine ended up breaking the clips (they are permanent, not removable clips). I put some velcro on it for now, until I can replace it, or come up with a better solution (thinking some plexiglass).

yea i broke my clips off too, I was thinking getting some screws, screwing it in and then just getting some caps to cover the screws, taht way if i need to take it off i can still get to the amp.

Amp might get a little hot back there with no air flow...don't burn the thing up.

I did the same thing but on the side with the jacks. So i installed 2 fans in it to keep my amp cool. It is set on a relay and comes on with the head unit, I will try get pics this week for you, actually looks pretty good. With the two holes I have, i put speaker grills over it. To bad one feel off and I have put it back up. Nice install man.

Just as an fyi the clips are not permanent. You must remove the entire rear trim which will alllow you to easily pull the clips out without damaging them.

Well, a little late for that advice now. LOL

Thanks for the comments. I thought about placing some fans back there, I can probably hook up some computer case fans to air out that area. I still have lots of room in that panel....I could easily mount another amp inside of it. (I don't need any more amps though).

Just have to figure out what to do with my box situation (have to leave the 3rd row folded down for now)

it's funny that me and you are doing the exact same thing, but i took care of the box problem first and you did got the amp problem first. :-D

i know you said you broke of some clips and now secure the grill with velcro. i was thinking maybe that isn't such a bad idea, after all with the velcro it would make it easy to get in there for what ever reason, instead of having to take the time to remove the whole plastic area to ge t in there.

how does it look once the grill area is placed back on, can you tell it's held on by velcro?

You cant tell that the velcro is there, but you can see that I was prying on it with a screwdriver! I think the best way if you want to velcro the panel is to take the whole interior panel off, then carefully remove the speaker panel from the inside.

I am probably gonna have to find someone parting out a 3rd gen X and buy the speaker panel from them eventually. I am then going to carefully cut each tab off and still do the velcro thing.

That is what i had to do for my panel cover. I have had my amp back there for a few years now. Currently it has a 1 farad cap and a 12 blue neon to light it all up. I just used some strong velcro and cut the clips so that i could ajust the neon and gain.

Hey Guys. I can't post the pictures but if someone can post them for me or let me email them to u I have them. Also I will explain with the pictures how they are done. Thanks

Sent to u, when u post them I will explain..

Sorry Mountaineer! I completely forgot that I told you I would host the pics! Better late than never I guess! I made them a bit smaller too, they were huge!

Now the fan in the front behind the speaker grill is sucking air in as the fan in the back is working to suck it out. The fans come on when the amp comes on due to the relay I have set up. U should see it in the pic. If u have questions let me know.

I need to post pictures of my setup. I got lucky and had the factory sup on the right side on my first gen. I have a cap, 600w amp and a 12 neon tube. If anyone wants to host them for me since my motherboard went out on my hompe computer/webserver just let me know. I gotta go take some pictures first.

send em to the email addy i posted above if you want me to host

was told by the shop thats doing my install that putting the amp(s) back there is common place and there is no need to worry about overheating ect unless your amp(s) are junk to begin with...they have done thousands of installs that way and never had an issue.......

Thanks!

Thanks for sharing, White97Jimmy! I think I'll make this my next project. I don't know why I hadn't thought about mounting an amp in that location. -It just makes total sense. I don't think it will have a problem with heat, but if it does I'll just rig some fans in that enclosure like Mountaineer97TM has done.

Thanks again!
