four low doesn't work

I have a 91 eddie bauer and when I push the 4 low button nothing happens but it still works in 4 high. I bought the x like this so I do not know when it quit working or anything about it. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

Are you doing it right? To get these to go into low range, you must be stopped, foot on brake, and transmission in N. Operator error out of the way, it could be a dirty shift motor, or a bad shift module, of a bad switch, or bad electrical connections in between.

I ahd same problem a while back, turned out part of the gear on the actuator motor broke, so it could only go into 4-high.

Make sure you're already in 4 hi then do what MrShorty said. If it doesnt work, you can try getting someone to tap the shift motor while you attempt to engage 4 low. Here is a link all about shift motor rebuild etc.
