Free mods.

I did a search on free mods & pretty much came up empty. Most forums I frequent have a sticky of some sort with free/ VERY cheap mod info. I havent found anythign liek that yet oin this site. Just a few posts of perople saying hack the can or get a $100 AFPK.
I know there has to be a list of things to do to these vehicles. With all these people tinkering with these vehicles somethign had to be written soemwhere.
I know most older vehicles are the same.
Hack the air can.
Bypass the EGR( for those that offroad )
Reroute the VC to intake tube hose( as to not suck in the oil vapors)
Vac line rerouting when soem said parts are removed.

You know. Things of this nature.
Is there nothing in the forums that has a list?

I know alot of you are Pro-enviromential.( saying DONT remove your cat because the smog nazi's will come after us, ect) & frown on people who even ask.
But that still doesnt mean we cant talk about. I have done searches for these things & they look like they are so frowned upon in here. But that doesnt mean they should be completely discarded.

Just an observation I have seen since being/lurking here.

Try the throttle cable mod - for the cost of a zip-tie or two, you'll have less pedal to press to get off the line.

Also, i hear the resistor-in-the-IAT sensor harness works wonders

As far as truly free HP gains, i don't know of any...

Not nessessary HP gain. Just improvements in general.
There are thousands of posts on things here & there but nothing in a list.
Nor have I seen a FAQ of the most common problems.
YOU MEAN THE RESISTOR DOESNT WORK!!!! Damn & I just spent $20 & $20 shippin gon it...LOL

But things like Taking the hose from the VC off of the intake tube & plugging the hole in the tube obviously works for something because there are no oil vapors being sucked through the intake, ect..
This works even better on high mileage vehicles.
Also the EGR bypass.
These things have to be good for something. Not nessessary more hp, but just a better running engine. I dont know of any engine that would run better, by sucking in oil vapors.

The airbox( aircan) was the first thing I listed. Very common to do.
Also. WTF is a "paper gauge mod"? The only stickies I found were here in the Need for speed section.

Hi Espresso:

I've modded the EGR circuit on other vehicles (S-10's and other GM) before. It can dramatically effect in-town drivability, but does nothing for maximum acceleration as the EGR valve is closed at WOT anyway. I haven't tried it on my Explorer, mainly because it doesn't have the same off-idle stumbling that my S-10 had, but it may help some. The trick is to reduce the EGR flow as much as possible without triggering a "Check Engine" light.

While not free, reducing exhaust restriction can have good results, and can improve fuel mileage, too. Getting rid of the cats is a viable option, but you'll need an O2 simulator to fool the computer.

You'll just have to search, because I don't think there is a list. You might try the "Useful Threads" forum, as many good ideas can be found there if you dig a little.

And, yes, this site seems to be overrun with eco-weenies. Just ignore them.

Just remove the arms and reposition.

You're not going to see any performance gains punching out your cats. The stock manifolds are pretty restrictive and the stock cats flow pretty well.

Explorers are not cheap to mod! ha -- good luck

Ha! look at mods for a Super Duty, you'll appreciate how inexpensive mods for the explorer are!

Try a search for TPS mod...throttle position sensor. Like above...the throttle cable mod. I know alot of the 1st gens can benefit from removing the MAF screen also, I took mine out years ago If your running Open air filter...you can set up forced induction via 3" hose. I'm sure I can think of a few more...jus gimme a minute !
