At idle, my engine tends to buck a little, regardless of temp. It has JUST been at the dealership getting $1300 of work on the engine, so I kinda expected it to run like glass. I was thinking mabey the IAC is on its way out? I dont know, any suggestions are greatly appreciated. (This is nothing serious, the rpms stay generally constant, near 500 most of the time, it just shakes in cycles, about 1/4hz)

rpms at 500? that seems low, most cars run at about 750ish

Cost $66 or so to find out. It helped my 97 SOHC, I tried 18 q-tips but replacing it worked.

What kind of work was done for $1,300? Maybe the dealer screwed something up, would not be the first time.

Nah, happened before it too.
If you must know, here is my invoice:

I'm still leaning to IAC, or mabey fuel filter / FPR.

the 00M12 program.

Hope you didn't have to pay for it ?? covered for 6 years 72k,however many times it has to be done.

when they did my truck a few months back, they weren't hooking up the coil harness properly,my truck would run for a while then shut down at speed,I had to bring it back to them 2 more times till they got it right.

the original problem for me was the motor shaking violently, power loss then stalling.this was the intake manifold gaskets or O-rings.

My OHV used to get "the shakes" as i called it - to fix it, all i did was clean off the wire in side the MAS w/ some O2 safe carb cleaner - gotta do it about every oil change it seems like, but hey, it works

good luck

William, I fought like hell cuz this sure seems like 00M12 to me too, but I have already had it done, and this is allegedly different, as a few sources tell me.
Harry, possibly, but I feel that if I had a vacuum leak it would be more noticable than just at idle. Anyways, any specific line you think I should check?
JMT, I have done a MAF cleaning within the past 3 months, but if a new IAC doesn't seem to resolve it, I guess another MAF cleaning would be in order!

???

Nate :, was there a reason for either not taking the truck back to the dealer,or flat out not taking possession
when the original problem still existed.bring it back and demand they fix it,you spent $$$,and the problem still exists...that's nut's.

I needed to get Ford involved in my case, they tried to bill me for the intake manifold's leaky o-rings,and if it wasn't for Robert sending me ALL the info on this program,I would have unknowingly paid as well.if either of the intake 0-rings{gaskets} fails,OR the CAM tensioner fails....BOTH must be fixed under the 00m12 program for 6/72.

I know plenty about 00M12, but the shaking isn't why I took it in, and it isnt 00M12 that is the problem (or my o-rings). I took it in because of a noise at 2.5k-2.9k rpms, it is the cam chain hitting the tensioner. The cam chain cassets (?) and tensioner and alot of other crap have to get replaced, which involves taking the whole engine out, etc. I personally still think my o-rings should be payed for this time, but Ford is giving me the run-around, and my parents are SICK of dealing with problems with my car (I tell them, it's an explorer, it's naturally high-maintnence). Anyways, after talking to ford and techs over at (dead link) we have basically decided that I am not under warranty and an AWA is my best option.
The work they performed fixed the problem, but I still have the shaking (which she documented wrong, it ISNT at startup, it is all the time, hot or cold, at idle).
I'm still thinking IAC, I guess I'll front $60 and see if it helps.

Re: Shaking at idle

500 rpm is too low for a warm engine. The idle speed should be higher. Check this thread on IAC:

Just because they replaced the O-rings once doesn't mean it was done right. If the tech doesn't seat em right you'll still have a problem. I think you've been taken for a ride.....

Well then this makes the third time they've done it and have failed to set em right. Besides, it not at a cold startup, its ALL THE TIME. Idleing, no matter what, it rumbles. Its getting worse. If you stand behind it you can hear it in the exhaust. It is almost exactly what happened last time when my 02 sensors were going, you hear a loss of pressure in exhaust, like a really weak firing. I just had my 02s replaced like 3 months ago though, so if they are the problem I am going to FLIP. I cannot figure this out and it seems to be getting worse quick. Any ideas?
I was wondering how hard the following things are to replace (and what you have to do, to do so):
Fuel Filter
FPR (Fuel pressure regulator?)
These seem like they *could* be the problem, but I dont know.
Thanks

Here's a couple of threads on replacing the fuel filter:

The fuel pressure regulator is pretty simple to replace, but I would test the fuel pressure first because they are pretty simple without much to go wrong, so I don't think they fail all that often.

edit: Oops, simple on most engines. On yours, you have to remove the intake manifold, ouch. At least you could check to make sure the o-rings are installed ok.;)

Harry: I hope so, unless the ford tech re-connected them wrong, but if they were mis-arranged, I would expect it to run like crap ALOT more than it is now! This is just a rough idle... I'm thinking IAC more and more. (That or 02s.... again, ohh so expensive.)
dogfriend: Thanks!
