Here's some pics of the rock chip

Ouch!

For what it's worth, you can get the touch up paint at paintscratch.com. I had ordered the paint for my Escape and it looked perfect. Once you get it touched up, if you go with the protection film, you should hardly be able to tell it was ever dinged.

Right on the edge...ouch!

Get it touched up, and do the 3M, what else can you do, other than re-paint the hood? Not even I would go to that extreme for 'one' chip.

But rather than just putting a blob of touch up paint on, perhaps there is an 'air brush' painter in your area. IMHO that would be the best solution.

...just a thought.

Just put some touch up paint on it and water sand it litely and the buff it, it will look great and you will forget all about it, yes it hurt's but hey that's part of driveing sorry that i sound cold but dont lose sleep over it try what i tell you and u will see. Best, !

After touching up the rock chip, I got the clear bra installed. Looks great! You cant even notice its on there. Some pics, you can barely see the edge of the bra. I recommend everyone getting this.

Don't let that happen again. Drive from the dealer to the 3M shop! :D

I've been hearing mixed reviews on the clear bras - they only last a while and/or paint stops matching (which makes sense with sun, etc)?

Looking at it now - anyone who has done this?

Cost?

I'd like to know what the clear 'bra' coating costs vs. what a repaint of the hood costs.

When i quoted my rock chin my hood, they were going to charge me about $550 because the have to reclear the whole hood so everything would match. The 3M bra cost me $650 and i had it installed on my front bumper, 1/4 of the hood, roof, 1/4 of the fenders and on the door edges. Its warranted for 5 years and it should discolor the paint. You'll regret getting one after you get rock chips.

I also just had the 3M clear bra installed on my Limited Black Explorer. For $700 it came with the side mirror covers as well as the grill covers for the painted grills (as well as everything described in the earlier post, less the roof strip). Even on the black, it is barely noticeable. This is my first brand new vehicle, I have always purchased 1 or 2 year old vehicles. I always hated the rock chips, I am hoping this will get me back $700 in resale down the road. Winters here in Canada are a front ends nightmare, I am glad I made the purchase, I will post pictures of the front end in the spring!
