front bumper removal

i own a 97 xlt and i just recently hit a tree on the front drivers side. this bent the bumper back and when i turn right, it is about a centimeter away from rubbing. i want to remove the bumper and either replace it or simply replace the brackets. does anyone know the best way to remove a 97 bumper?

as far as i know you just have to get under the truck and remove the bolts that connect the bumper to mount and the bumper should come out. and i think the bumper brackets for the front are welded to the frame.
