Front bumper rust

While washing my Explorer yesterday I noticed that the lower channel, above where the fog light air dam hooks to, was getting rather rusty, starting to creep up the sides. It had been just surface rust until a few months ago, now I notice that its getting a bit worse. Has anyone else experienced this? Just wondering how to go about getting it outta there since its a very narrow and tight area to get to. I'd rather not take everything apart if possible.

Is your bumper chrome?On my 92 my bumper was becoming very rusty I took it off and sand blasted it and then duralined it,came out real nice

Yep its chrome. Wonder what it look like it I took it off, had it blasted and painted red to match?? hmmmm...ideas.

Are you talking about the the opening just below the bumper trim? If so, I had the same problem. If the rust isn't that bad, use some chrome polish that has rust removers in it and rub the area for about 5 minutes. This removed all of the rust I had in that area.

Yeah that's exactly where it is.

To remove the rust you can use fine steel wool, like 000, then a good polish to eliminate the scratches you put in with the steel wool

i drilled off the rivets that held my front licence plate on and underneath, it was quite rusty. spent 10 minutes scrubbing with chrome cleaner and it took all the rust off as well as out of the scratch's. let is soak on for a few inutes then keep the cloth really wet and scrub away.

I don't recommend using steel wool for the same reason it shouldn't be used on stainless steel. Bits of steel can come of and become atached to the chrome and cause rusting.
