I went to replace the front drivers axle seal on my wife's 2007 explorer, and I used the slide hammer type remover. Well my problem is that the puller broke the plastic behind the seal. And didn't even remove the seal. I ende up using a air chisel and it popped right out.

I am lost on what I need to do now, can someone please help me? I looked up a bearing, but I don't know how to install it or remove the old one

Did you get it fixed ?

Did you get it fixed ?

Not yet, Had to order the part from Ford this morning and wont have it until tomorrow afternoon.

The only question I have about it now, is how deep to put the bushing in. When I removed it, it was flush with the First groove inside the housing, but I cant find anything to tell me if that is the correct location. I sent an email to Dana/Spicer and low and behold have not gotten a response.

So, if anyone else ever has this problem, and you have to remove the plastic bushing, I would highly suggest renting this tool from you local parts store (oreillys has them)

I wasn't sure what I was dealing with and it was late on Saturday night, so after I found what the part looked like, I used the slide hammer and a hook attachment to pull it out, but the bearing puller would be so much easier.

Got the part from the dealer on Tuesday, and had a friend that had the Ford tool to install the "bushing" back into the diff. If you have to do this without the tool, you could use the bearing puller I have shown above to install also. You install the "bushing" so that the face of it is flush with the first grove in the diff.

After that, I installed the new seal, put a little grease around the rubber on the new seal and a little bit of grease around the axle itself and put it back together and torqued everything to spec.

What a POS I cannot believe it is not a real bearing but a bushing.

Do you know how to replace the bearing on the other side. I replaced the driver side and now want to replace the passenger side as there is play.
I cant seem to find where this is located. Removed passenger side CV shaft and dust cap/seal and do not see it, does shaft in differential extension come out. Part is 6L2Z 4B413B.
