'96 ex 5.0 swap 4406 swap
Hello everyone I have a 96 Ex that was 4.0 but I'm doing the 5.0 swap right now. Now I replaced the gear sets in the front and rear now with this swap I can't use my front diff due to the vacuum motor on it now has anyone done a good write up on how to swap gears in a Dana 35 with IFS and it there a way I could possibly still use the front diff with the vacuum motor in it?

A front diff housing from a '97-'01 Explorer ('97-'03 Sport) or '98-'11 Ranger won't have that center axle disconnect (vacuum motor) unit on it if that's what you're looking for. Should bolt right in I'm thinking.

It may bolt right in, but the PCM might sense that the vacuum motor (not existent) is not responding. Might throw a trouble code, not sure on this one. imp

Since he's swapping the engine (and I presume the PCM), I don't think something like that would come up at all.

Right. And swapping PCMs better involve an entire harness swap, as certain connections at the PCM have not been held the same year after year. imp

Thats what I had to do is a harness and pcm swap now the center disconnect is vacuum powered with some easy wiring involved to get the center disconnect to work I would like to keep it but the problem is The center disconnect part hits the oil pan do u know of any around? The reason being for me me wanting to keep if the front carrier has about 70k and 3:73s with a matching rear axle and the parts explorer I have has about 200k on with a rebuild engine and tranny and 3:55 ratios

I just don't want to have an AWD drive
