2003 explorer sport xlt
so I got a 2003 ford explorer sport xlt 4x4 and this suv has given me nothing but problems and now when I step on the gas from a dead stop I get a loud clunk noise I pull into my shop put it up on jacks and I grab the drive shat going into the front diff and I get almost 90° of play and it is the source of the clunk I believe anyone know what it may be before I open it up ? I don't have the funds to replace what ever it is but has anyone else have the same issue ? Like why is the front drive shaft making the noise when I don't even have 4x4 engaged I had a coed for a bad 4high solenoid but I plugged it back in and the coed was gone would that have anything to do with it ?

Possible one of your front wheel bearings is worn to the point the wheel sensor is not reporting correctly. That means the computer thinks a wheel is losing traction and momentarily kicks in the traction control ergo the clunk.
