I am gathering info for my 92 Explorer (4Dr)… I am about to strip the body off and mount a 1950 F-1 body on it. I have a big wish list and not much budget (Surprise!). I know there are items that I have to do to the donor truck to get it mechanically sound but I am looking for your inputs so I don’t take things apart twice or waste money…

Some of the first items needed are Manual hubs and wheel bearings! What else would you do while taking that on? IE; ball joints, bushings…

First item on the want list is a 2.5 – 3” lift. I am thinking of the James Duff 2.5, stage 2 kit. What would you add or delete to that package or do at the same time?

Thanks in advance for your input,
Jay

If the ball joints and bushings are original 17 years old, I'd replace 'em.

JD makes a great lift. Only thing I would add is the drop pitman arm which they don't include. This will improve your steering linkage angle after the lift, leading to much better handling and fewer problems with tire wear.

Moog Parts?

I have seen allot of favorable mention on the Moog replacement parts.

Can anyone share who they have used for their supplier and how they liked them? Do you think it was money well spent?

I’d love to find a one stop shopping spot that I could just say send me a package for my 92…

My Moogs didn't last 15,000 miles (the grease boots on them suck too)

Go with Spicer. I have these on my Ranger and they've lasted twice that, and are still as tight as the day I put them in (seems Spicer is Raybestos now, so either one should be good).

Look for the ones called "Professional Grade". They're well worth the cost over cheaper ones. www.rockauto.com carries them.
