You are correct, sir...

Besides basic hand tools you'll need a 2 3/8 hub nut. It's a giant socket. I got mine from the Snap-On guy for ~$10. Local auto parts wanted $17-$34 for some reason. I bet that's the only tool Snap-On sells that's actually cheaper than everywhere else.

Oh yeah, that socket is 3/4" drive so you may need a 3/4 to 1/2" adaptor unless you have a 3/4" ratchet.

I bought the hub socket from Advance Auto parts for $8 and it takes the standard 1/2" drive. Having a good pencil magnet to get the key out would also help. Use a LOT of degreaser to loosen it up. If you are going to try to get it out with a small pick or something, it can be done, but it's tedious.

i bought a tool today that said it will work on explorers. if its not the right one then i'm gonna run to advance tomorrow. i got all new bearings and seals today so i am gonna start this project once my classes are over tomorrow.

jef...i spent time this easter putting that brush guard on. i had to modify the brackets alot but i got it to work, it looks great. just thought i'd let you know. i dont know when i can come get that engine, it will be soon though, i just got busted for underage here at school 2 weeks ago so things are kinda touchy at home with my dad right now, but i'll get out to get it at some point.

Busted!!

Been there, done that. Got tossed out of the dorms at East Stroudsburg many moons ago for the same thing. Surprisingly, my Dad wasn't too pissed though. My grades actually went up after I moved off campus which helped smooth things over.
