OK, I was misleading myself, talking about CV JOINTS usually implies axle shafts, NOT DRIVESHAFTS. The FRONT DRIVESHAFTS have used a unique CV joint up by the transfer case only, none (only U=joints) on rear driveshafts. There are NO CV joints in the rear drivetrain in 1999. Well I'd send a picture of the rear shaft fromy mountaineer AWD its a CV joint with a boot and its round like the front . and I only have front drive its snowing pretty obvious it's front-wheel drive so I don't know what's going on here but I joined this forum to get this question answered and I guess I'll just go to my drive line shop Andover pay somebody for something I know how to do because I can't find a f****** part when I know for sure it's around CV joint kit on a f****** Dana and it's replaceable but there's no CV joint on a rear drive line right guys 99 Mountaineer V8 all wheel drive. Yes, the models before mid 1997, that's when the CV joint began on the front shaft. The CV joint solved some minor vibration issues that were there with the older models. All 1996's should have DC joints in the front shaft, and the 1997 year was full of changes.Don if I'm not mistaken there were a few with double cardon up front also, which I believe was superceded by the CV.
I'll have to send pictures and just repost this . my problem is my rear driveshaft is pulled out it has a round CV joint on the end rear and a u joint front . only my front tires spin its my rear I only find the kit for the front drive shaft wtf . its a round joint this is my rear driveshaftOkay, you are looking for the rear driveshaft joint, the front one. The rear one is a simple u-joint, the front one I think is a double cardon u-joint. Those joints are very rare to have an issue with, so few people have had to service them.
Do you really mean that the truck has no rear drive, or the front is all that spins? The rear should be driven no matter what, even with a failed transfer case. The joints are all serviceable, I mentioned the special front one because there is a special rebuild kit by Dorman for about $85 or so.
The rear DC joint will be a traditional type, rebuilt with a kit for that size, basically two u-joints in the kit and something for the middle part. I've seen the kit but never done one.
Do you have some noises, or obvious torn joint boots etc?
That is the front driveshaft, same for all 98-01 Explorers. The V6 version is a little longer, but the CV joint there is identical.I
