I have a 96 Explorer with Control Trac. I would like to remove the front rotors. I removed the calipers and the associated brackets but the rotors wont move. I even tapped it a bit but dont want to hit it to hard. Does the center nut in the front axle have to be removed. I have a Haynes manual and it says the rotor should come off. Any thought would be appreciated.:hammer:

The rotor should just come off. Teh big center bolt is for holding the hub on. Just realize you have 6 years of rust probably holding that thing on. Mine is 2 years old and I had to force them off. I used a little WD-40 and actually tapped in towards the engine with a hammer as I pulled on the opposite side of the rotor, and slowly it started working loose, probably took 5-10 minutes each side, because I didn't want to hit it too hard. It will come off, just keep working it back and forth.

rotors

There might be some locking washers on the lug studs that would have to be removed first. paul
