I have a problem with the fender liner behind my front wheels. Both of them have ripped through. Ford wants $50+ ea and they are special order. I was wondering if anyone could identify the material that it is made from. I was thinking it reminded me of tar paper or roofing paper. I figure I can use my old one as a template and replace them.

The splash guard in the illustration doesn't look right. Mine is aabout 30in across with about 6 push in pins. It hangs like a drape in front of the shock. Very flexible stuff.

I know.. I was thinking the same. But I'd email torrie@fastpartsnetwork.com and ask him. Maybe include a picture of yours.

I can't imagine what else they would be though.

Thanks for the reference info.

I was noticing the grille on yours. Whne I put on a sililar grille I couldn't get to the hood latch. How did you solve that problem?

I installed a latch from a '98+ Explorer. The release is between the hood and the grille. Not under the grille.

Let me guess. fastpartsnetwork.com?

Junk yard! :D

Or a Mountaineer latch--

section525 - Thanks for the info. As of today my hood opens from the top!! No more grill forks or other tools to open the hood!!! Thanks again...

No problem! :D

I did the screw driver thing for about 7 years!! I thought I did a write-up on this but I couldn't find it. Did you grab the entire plastic piece that goes across the top of the grille? It will make the whole area look better with the proper plastic.

I did. A buddy of mine at work has a 98. I parked next to him and made him open the hood. He was wondering if I could line it up okay. I stopped by the junk yard on the way home and pulled off all three parts (latch, catch, liner). Then I used a 8 1/2x 11 sheet of paper and made a template of the hood with my smudgy fingers. I got home and taped my template to the hood then drilled the holes. The material is really thin aluminum. It would be better with nuts behind it. Did you add nuts? I can reach one with my fingers but the other is out of reach. Last, I had to trim the plastic a bit to fit the top of the housing.

My buddy at work will be surprised. He couldn't figure out how I'd line it up.

Mine was 100% bolt on. I didn't need to do any customzing. Weird!

May be the diff between 95 and 96

What can I do to repair it? My passenger side one is ripped.
