I own a 03 Merc Mountineer. As of late I get an intermittent grinding noise from the front passenger side. Also the front whine is there speeding up to freeway speeds. It only grinds if turning at a slow rate of speed.

According to post it sounds like a wheel bearing.Searching the usual sites ie Autozone/orielly's/AAP seems you can only buy complete hubs.

Has anyone changed just the bearings or is this a no go?

My second guess is i have a shoe hanging up.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Could it also be a cv joint?

How do you check a CV joint to see if it is bad?

I have decided that I need new front wheel bearings for my 2003 Explorer XLT 4WD. I have found two different assembly's made by Timken which look like they work. One is part no SP470200 and the other is SP470201, the SP470200 is about $15.00 more than the SP47201. Does anyone know what the difference is between the two? Thanks.
