Frozen drivers door

Yeah. Honestly they didn't even look at the lock or anything, they just said all 4 doors lock and unlock normally, come get the car. I had told them when I called and when I stopped it off that it's working now. If they were not going to bother, they could have at least told me not to come untill it's doing it or something.

I swear this dealership is just trying to make money on the 30$/day +80c/Km for a loaner car. I'm very disappointed so far with the Ford service (this is my 5th time already since I got it 6 months ago). This is for sure my last new car. Lesson learned.

Check out CAMVAP

You may get them to buy it back or replace it.

I used it on my 2011 Explorer early build with lots of issues.

Interesting, I knew about the process but did not know there was an organization dedicated to it. Thanks! I'm not there yet, but if it keeps going then for sure I'll contact them.

Did someone use a slimjim to open this door at any time? There is a thin metal tube (for the lack of a better word) that goes from the solenoid to the latch that might have been bent by someone yanking on it with the aforementioned slimjim.

Our 2020 Explorer drivers door lock seems frozen, it wont unlock and it has been 3 days like this. Anyone else have this yet? Hoping this isn't gong to be like my F-150:(
Anyone has a DYI fix to this annoying problem? my 2020 ST has started doing this a few weeks ago when it gets really cold outside. I am out of warranty (Too many miles) and I don't want to spend too much money at the dealer to get it fixed. I think this should be a safety recall issue but that's not going to happen soon it seems!

I can hear the electronic mechanism clicking when I lock and unlock the car but the nub doesn't rise up. Pulling on the outdoor handle does nothing. I have to climb in from the other side and then pull on the inside handle really strong which gets the door open even though the nub still stays stuck and despite the door opening, I do not feel that the handle pull releases anything (door does open but I do not feel the latch mechanism clicking when I pull the inside handle). I tried inserting the key manually and rotate to see if that gets the nub moving and it doesn't! I sprayed around the nub and inside the key slot with WD40 lubricant and still nothing. Once the temperature warms up everything starts working again and the nub starts moving normally with the lock and unlock push on the key fob. . Any help or suggestion is appreciated

I doubt you will see any kind of notice from Ford on this. It doesn't appear to be a common issue. I haven't had with my previous Explorers nor my current Aviator and the temperatures lately have been around -18 to -25 F.

We are having similar issue with 2020 limited explorer.

Driver door nub freezes in colder Temps and can't open unless manually from inside or forcibly with key.

Suspect water/moisture in sheath from car washes.

Going to try to pull out panel and get moisture out with heat/air and wd40 and ethyl alcohol.

Yup, happened to me again this week on my 2020 limited, was -13, it's so annoying, and my dealership cant do anything since they "can't repro". If you find anything please do keep us updated !

I'm not sure exactly what is meant by "door nub". Is that the part you push down from inside to lock the door or are you talking about the exterior door handle? Will the keyfob button unlock the doors?

I'm guessing it is the outside temperature that is causing your issue. If that's the case, the only way the dealer would be able to reproduce the problem would be to leave it with them overnght.

Yes indeed, the problem is that it only happens like 4-5 times a year, so I would probably have to leave it with them for a month or more for it to happen again, and it's my only vehicle so that would cost me thousands for a rental, and I'm not sure if it would happen with it just sitting there. At this point I've just accepted it's part of the issues with this car, it's already at the garage 5-6 times per year for small stuff (heated seats not working, peeling on the window switches and inside handles, sunroof not closing and needed to be recalibrated, stuff like that).

The transmition is starting to shift pretty rough, the trunk I think needs to be recalibrated, always takes a few tries to open and I have more peeling switches. I'm at 22 000KM (13 760 miles).

The weather in Montreal towards the latter part of the week should be a good test. Lows of -28 and -23 C on Friday and Saturday.
