there're loads of engine mods in FRP catalog, seems a waste to let it go unnoticed :D

just wondering, since '96~'01 x's v8s are the 302s that ran in mustangs up till '95, can you guys give me some heads up on some of the interchangeable FRP engine parts from mustangs that would work on our 302 v8's as well? i'm not so well-versed (,yet :p) on these engines, need help...

btw i'm relatively new to the forum, started 'bout a month or 2 ago. this is a great place :)

Well I've got bad news to tell you, from one V8 guy to another. Most of the Mustang 302 stuff won't work on our explorers.

While the blocks themselves are the same, and have been for years, the heads, intake, computer system, and most importantly the front accessories are all different.

1) The mustangs use "long style" front accessories (water pump, fan, alternator, a/c compressor, p/s pump) which won't fit into the X, which uses shorter acessories. Look at a Mustang hood - its much longer.

2) In 1996, when Ford put the V8s in the X, they switched from an OBD I system to an OBD II computer system. It was for emissions.

3) The Xs use a distributorless ignition system, while the Mustangs use a mechanical distributor.

So.... the short answer is "it depends" on the part swaps. Superchargers, since they run off the accessory drive, won't work without major mods. But cams - they will. New heads, they will work depending on your new headers and intake.

bummer :(

Yea, but don't dispair. The 302s in our Xs were some of the best and most reliable 302s ever made, with top notch fuel injection systems.

There are still lots of aftermarket parts for our engines, many people have superchargers on their X V8s. Since the 302 block is the same, mounts and transmissions work with all 302s, so crate engines, included 347s can be used as "huge bolt ons"

what about Throttle bodies and MAF and stuff? I assume it's a no-go??
