Ok guys I have had my explorer for a few weeks now and just want to check what the expected short journey (2-3 miles at a time) fuel consumption should be?
I currently seem to be at around 11 mpg is this low or about right?

I've had mine for over 10 years now and on short journeys that is about what I get. On longer trips I usually get about 23/24 mpg and on rare occasions I've had up to 27 mpg. But just pottering around town 11-13 mpg is about it. Still way better than a range rover though.:D

That's what I thought just wanted to check before I started fault finding a non fault!!

If you plan on keeping it a long time then you should consider getting a multi-point LPG system fitted. You will save loads of money with no noticeable loss of power and about the same mpg.

Have considered the LPG conversion but to be honest the cost vs value etc for a 15 year old car I am not too worried!!

Just done 296 miles of mixed motorway & A roads and then a week knocking around town and i got 22mpg. Must say mines never done less than 15mpg though. Normally about 17mpg local driving.
