Well I'm in the middle of replacing my fuel filter, but the old one is giving me trouble. The problem is that I believe the old one may not be the correct fuel filter, because the length of the inlet and outlet are too short. This makes it impossible to insert the quick disconnect tool because the fuel fitting buts up against the casing of the old fuel filter.

So how can I go about removing this? Can I use a hack saw to cut the old filter out? (don't want to create any sparks) Any other ideas?

Here are a few pics to show you what I'm looking at:

Thanks in advance!

this kind of filter tool lets you get alot closer too the filter than some other kinds.
can you pry the line back at all to fit one of these clamp around tools over the line?

The most clearance I can get (after prying) between the fitting and the filter casing is about 1/8". The little blue tool that I have (picture 2) is probably about 3/4". I can't see any way I can fit any sort of tool in that space.

I think I would try to get a set of bolt cutters in there to snip off the inlet and outlet..

I think you are correct that someone used the wrong filter as a replacement; there is normally more than enough room to get the tool around the inlet and outlet.

i have a similar snafu. the PO cut the front piece of an old one off and used some emissions tubing to connect the fitting to the filter. just havent had the time to get it out lately
