Fuel tank problems

Actually you sound right on cue. Your thinking is correct however, you either get rid of it now or make the commitment to keep it and plan on rebuilding it.

I personally like keeping them and rebuilding them, I have spent 6 years building my BII and she just hit 230K miles. I'm just getting started. I tell you, you cant go out and buy a truck like this, ithas to be built and I will put it up against any new truck/SUV on the market any day....

In 6 years I have spent approx $10K building her up, thats about 1/2 of whatI would have paid to buy something new, and new stuff sucks!

I tell you the end result is worth all the work, I have a totally custom truck that will kick the shorts off just about any other small truck/SUV and I can "feel" if one of my wheel bearings comes loose slightly, we have a connection the old girl and I. I have turned every single bolt on the truck andit gives you real confidence in the ability to fix/rebuild anything that could go wrong....

Now to build a 280HP 4.0L.....

no the fuel lines are not corrodded, they are just a real PITA. It will come apart easy if you get the tool in there right, thats the key it has to be all the way in or it will not unlock.

Personally I like the fuel filter on my BII, it's about 10x's easier, takes 2 seconds witha flat head to get it out....

Dont forget to relieve the fuel pressure first!!!!!

I did bleed the fuel pressure. I didn't seem to be much, I think it sat overnight and maybe it bleeds out some.

I'll get the aluminum tool from Pep boys and give it a whirl.

What about the fuel tank. WIll I need that tool to remove the fuel lines from the tank as well as the pump?

hmmm good question, I havent dropped the tank on an Explorer yet...if you do need anything it will be the same tool you already have tfor the filter, if it's like my BII then you will just need a flathead screwdriver, just dont break the plastic clips

There should be about 40# of pressure in your fuel rail, you should notice it! Oh and dont think that just because you bled it out that some wont still squirt when the filter is removed, just make sure to have a rag weith you and dont care about the sirt your wearing....long sleeves are good, keeps it from running down your arm!

I;ve been gas saoked about 10 times changing my fuel pump(s) and filter..... :) no biggie just dont smoke!!!!
