gas gauge problems

i have a 2004 ford explorer xlt with 35,000 miles on it. from time to time when i fill up with gas it takes up to 3 hours of the ignition on, for the gas gauge to go back up to full. any ideas that might be causing this, or anyone ever have the same trouble? thanks.

It might be a leaking float or a defective sending unit.

Same problem...

I took mine to Ford for service, and they said to use Chevron or add techron. No service required... If you already use Chevron, then listen to ^^
