Sounds like your float is now a sinker! :frustrate

yep. sounds like that. did that in my old car. i hit a couple speed bumps a little faster to "jiggle" the floater off of the bottom of the tank. it could have just stuck there.

Time to replace your fuel pump/sender

I had the same problem and changed mine about 8 months back. Had to drop the entire gas tank to do it and about 8 hours, using hand tools.
I picked the fuel sender/pump up from www.partamerica.com for about $90.

Hope that helps.

do you mean i should replace the fuel pump or just a sender unit. tis not a real bg deal but since my mileage and speedometer ar eoof its real hard to tell when the hell to fill up. i'd love to fix it soon so maybe i'll give it a shot this week when i run the gas out of the tank. let me know if i'm on the right pageand any problems youran into.

The sending unit and fuel pump are one unit in the gas tank.
I suggest taking out your spare tire for more room.
Get a can or two of WD-40 and spray all the bolts you see holding the gas tank on and just start wrenching. You will also need to remove the filler hose and breather, but just from the tank end (you do not need to remove it from the gas door end). It is pretty straight forward to drop the tank.
Once down, the fuel pump/sender assembly is the one with the electrical wires coming from it. It is held in the tank by a large locking ring.
Installation is the opposite steps of removing.

in case you havent started this project there is a relay switch in the dash that controls the fuel gauge level mine has since gone out and ford want 50 bones for a new one. anyways its a small electronic board about the size of a pack of matches. it should be located right on the left side of the gauge panel you will see it when you pull the cluster out.
Just thought id throw that at ya in case you havent started.

mission accomplished. took most of the day but its done. gauge works fine now. i only needed one special tool to release the fittings(napa 17.99) other thanthat i was just labor intensive. also did the fuel filter while i was under there. thanks for the help with this guys

lie i spoke too soon. after i filled p the tank just now, it leaks out o the top where the fuel pump flange is. looks lke i need a new gasket and locking ring. i get to take another day off of work sometime soon and do it all over agan.
