31.4 in an Ex?

:)

I'm going to try it when the weather warms up and levels out.
My mileage is increasing steadily anyway because of the rising temps.
I actually own an f-150, but this is the best thread on acetone I have found yet...

I think there's acetone in the Seafoam Motor Treatment too. I doubt any ill effects will arise. I'm gonna try this next week probably.

Unless you guys have been keeping fuel records, the only thing you will notice is a smoother running engine

I've found the maximum benefit is during a highway road-trip where speed limits are between 45-60. Pushing a gen 1 at highway speeds (70+) will lower your mpg due to the aerodynamics of our shoe box shape.

God luck!

aerodynamics? hahahahaha that word shouldn't be used it the same paragraph as Explorer!!! hahaha BII is WORSE :)

Every time I fill up I print a receipt and write down the mileage of my trip meter.

Well, my best prior to Acetone was 21 driving 100% highway and that was last year. I have been getting around 16-18 right now depending on how much highway driving I do and how heavy my foot feels. I will be filling up tomorrow and will start my testing of the acetone at a ratio of 2 oz per 10 gallons. I will keep you guys updated.

I also started today, i'll post updates here or in my fuel log on my website

edited for tire size error.
4/8/2005
Miles: 106
Gallons: 8.027
MPG: 13.21 * 1.096 (correction for tire size) = 14.48

4/15/2005
Miles: 146
Gallons: 10.1
MPG: 14.46 * 1.096 (correction for tire size) = 15.85

4/24/2005
Miles: 110
Gallons: 8.076
MPG 13.62 * 1.096 (correction for tire size) = 14.93

5/10/2005
Miles: 220
Gallons: 17.41
MPG 12.64 * 1.096 (correction for tire size) = 13.85
Note: More than normal idling for this tank, sitting in parking lot, etc.

This is where i started using acetone:

5/14/2005
Miles: 219
Gallons: 14.788
MPG: 14.81 * 1.096 (correction for tire size) = 16.23
Note: My mileage goes up when i drive to school more often, i know have to go 5 days a week instead of 2 so the increase might not be all acetone related.

Well not a HUGE result, but more tanks to come i suppose. Should point out all the firgures are off 9.6% from tire size (EDIT: now accounted for), but they're all relative to each other so it shouldnt matter. If it continues to go up i'd attribute it more to the engine getting used to acetone than going to school. Will post more results as i get them!

I found my best gains on after the 2nd or 3rd tank

I was able to check my mileage over the same route on 3 separate occasions, giving me what I feel is a definitive result for me. The route was from Rockland County NY to Lancaster PA and return. Each trip carried an identical load, similar traffic, same tolls, similar weather, and no modifications to the vehicle, even identical tire pressures. I have used the same brand of gasoline, even from the same pump, for the past 5 weeks and even used a homemade dipstick and gas can to ensure fill to the same point for measurement. A glass graduated cylinder was used to accurately measure the acetone addition.

First trip
Miles = 341
Fuel consumed = 14.1 gals.
Calculated mileage = 24.2 mpg

Second trip using 1 oz. Acetone/10 gals
Miles = 343
Fuel consumed = 14.0 gals.
Calculated mileage = 24.5 mpg

Third trip after using 1oz Acetone/10 gals for 4 tankfuls
Miles = 343
Fuel consumed = 13.4 gals
Calculated mileage = 25.6 mpg

I plan to continue using acetone at the reduced level of 1 fluid ounce per 10 gallons because this level seems to yield a result that appears cost effective for me and my 95 Limited with OHV 6.

Yeah thats what im expecting too. Also since they would come from driving to school 5 days a week it'd be more comparable to this last tank.

Just returned from a 1000 road Mile trip.

First leg of the trip - Sarasota to Atlanta [ 507 miles all I 75 driving ]
average speed 79.3 MPH ( GPS determined )
1 fl oz acetone/10 gal Amoco 89 gas
26.1 MPG ( speed kills )
The truck had 3 adults, 2 dogs, and was packed with "stuff"

Return trip = Atlanta to Sarasota [ 512 miles all I 75 ]
average speed 76.3 MPH
no acetone in gas
24.5 MPG ( speed kills )
The truck had 2 adults, 1 dog, and was mostly empty

The acetone in the gas at 1 fl oz/ 10 gal, yielded a 1.6 MPH increase in gas mileage.

I am impressed with the results in my truck.

Cool, I'll have my second tank tonight or tomorrow. Just looking at miles traveled and the gas guage (compared to where it normally would be by now) I think im alittle higher than my last tank, but we'll see soon. Has anyone else tried it with results to post?

That's a typo right?

#1-2:10 ratio Arco 92 octane 214.5 miles 15.009 gal
Moving average per GPS 27.6 mph
14.3mpg,.

#2-2:10 ratio Arco 92 octane 178 miles 11.606 gal

#3-2:10 ratio Arco 92 octane 247.5 miles 14.234 gal

#4-2:10 ratio Union 76 92 octane 128 miles 5.516 gal
GPS moving average 57.8 mph
23.2 mpg!! 3.2 mpg better than ANY previous tank
The best I have EVER gotten in the 5 years I've owned my X and recorded the MPG's is 19.95 mpg, I have NEVER broken 20mpg (until now! )

#5-2:10 ratio Arco 92 octane 318 miles 16.039gal
Forgot to reset GPS moving average
19.82mpg

#6-2:10 ratio Safeway 92 octane 235 miles 15.058 gal
30.8 mph GPS moving average
15.61 mpg

#7-2:10 ratio Arco 89 octane 226.5 miles 14.847gal
27.1 mph GPS moving average
15.19 mpg Slower moving average than tank 1 but 1.1 mpg better mileage

#8-2:10 ratio Arco 89 octane 161 miles 11.24 gal
24.7 mph GPS moving average
14.09 mpg

#9-2:10 ratio Arco 89 octane 221 miles 13.515 gal

16.35 mpg

#10-2:10 ratio Arco 89 octane 345 miles 18.123 gal
40.35 mph GPS moving average
19.04 mpg

#11-2:10 ratio Arco 89 octane 202 miles 13.098 gal
28.4 mph GPS moving average
15.48 mpg

Based on my 2004 records, I traveled 15,600 miles with a 15.44 mpg average.

Using these numbers;
15,600 miles@15.44 ave=1,009.92 gal
1mpg improvement over 15.44=6.47%*1,010gal=65.4 gal less
2:10 ratio would have required 1.47 gal of acetone @$14.00/gal= $20.67

65.4 gal*$2.40/gal=$156.96- $20.67= net savings of $136.29

After this tank, I'll drop the ratio to 1oz:10gal

I have had better results with 1 fl oz/10 gal gas, than with the 2 fl oz/10 gal gas mixture.

Well my next tank is alittle disapointing, but i also set in traffic more when i went to see star wars. Wish i could get a more consistent driving pattern but it just doesnt happen.

Miles Traveled: 264
Gallons Used: 19.482
MPG: 13.55 * 1.096 (correction for tire size) = 14.85

Note that after this my speedo should be corrected for tire size, so i'm going to try and put all the other numbers in perspective so they are still comparable.
