Hey guys, new to the forums. Came back home visiting my parents with their Ford Explorer 3g and I told them I can do their LED conversions as well. I know what I'm doing, I just don't have much info on what LEDs are in the gauge cluster. Here is my car:

I've read guitarfrk741's post, but it's not very informative. I realize I will have to sand down the film, but he said he just ran another line in that connects to LED/resistors. So, I'm guessing he covered up the existing smd LEDs and put bulbs in.

Basically what I'm asking is: what LEDs are in the gauge cluster? SMD LEDs or bulbs? Thanks guys.

Awesome thanks for more info. It looks like I may have to use guitarfrk741's approach and just cover the existing LEDs and put in prewired SMD LEDs in because it looks like too much of a hassle. Everything else seems really easy. I'll take pics and show the processes. I just have to find something to tap into so I can use the dimmer feature as well.
