Has anyone had any experience with GE Nighthawk headlight bulbs? They look like Sliverstars (not that blue stuff). I'm using Silverstars now but they do burn out fast.

I've been running silverstars for about a year now and neither have burned out. I've even transfered them from my X to my F-150 with no problems.

Well, I just picked up some Nighthawks for under $27 plus tax. I'll compare them to my second set of Silverstars. The first set lasted just under a year even with proper installation (never touched by hands or smudged with grease).

We'll see how these GE lamps shine compared to the Sylvania bulbs.

The Nighthawks brightness test get a thumbs down in, in my opinion. Not as bright as the Silverstars they replaced. The light did not seem as bright or as white as the Sylvanias. Reflecting ability was also not as great. I thought I could save 12 bucks a pair for the several family cars but they don't beat the Silverstars. They are about as bright as the Sylvania XtraVision bulbs.

Time will tell if they last longer than Silverstars or Xtravisions (both of which are installed in other family cars).

Make sure you aren't touching the bulbs (the glass part). Or getting any type of greast, dirt, oil on them when installing -- this could be your problem with burning out bulbs.

I took those precautions (wrapped the bulbs in protective covering, latex gloves) so nothing touched the globes. I've seen the result of a finger touching a globe before installing. Not a pretty sight.

I called Sylvania about the set that lasted less than a year and they were not surprised. They even recommended that I change the bulbs once a year due to their high output and short life.

I change my bulbs once every 7-8 months....prolly cuz im running hyper white matrix 80/100 bulbs. IMO its worth the money

Usually if the bulb fails because you touched it it explodes. Or it cracks.
The oil on your skin causes there to be a hot spot on the glass and it breaks.
Heat is what usually causes the bulbs to burn out.

Pabille,
Thanks for the info on the NightHawks. Since I hadent heard any reviews about them I was wondering. Guess I'll stick w/ PIAA or Silverstars.

They aren't as white as the silverstar's because they don't have any coating on them to filter out the light. I have put these in a Sport Trac and the brightness is comparable to the Sylvania Xtra Vision bulbs. Good light output with the same color as a standard bulb (because of no coating).
