Sup, I'm not sure if this is a major or minor problem. Basically, the dilemna i'm having with my '99 SOHC V6 explorer (91K) is the gear display is not aligned correctly. Ummm...for example, on the dashboard one sees "P R N D 2 1", when I shift to Drive (D) the gear indicator goes to 2, instead of D. Same problem if I put the Explorer in Reverse (R), indicator goes to N. I have not noticed any performance issues with this problem. I would appriceate it if someone could post what is causing the problem. Thank you in advance.

there is a little plastic gear like wheel in the steering column that allows you to adjust this. its got a decent amount of adjustment too. its black and about a half in in diameter and is connected to the shift cable. pull off the bottom panels covering the steering column and have at it. you just spin the gear a little to move the needle one way or the other.

I'm having the same problem....how do I remove the panel so I can adjust the screw?
