1995 Ford Ranger 4 wheel
I have purchased a 1995 Ford Ranger 4.0 from my father-in-law, the gear selector cable appears to be broken, because its slipping inside the sheath.

I have called the major auto parts stores to no avail looking for this cable. I did find it on Amazon, or my brother did, but i consider that to be a weird place to purchase a car part from.

I have looked in the Chilton Manual, and could not find the cable in there either. Can somebody provide me with some instructional on how this cable is replaced. would it be more prudent just to put in a floor shifter and abandoned the column shifter?

Thanks
JMM

Get a used one from an auto-wrecker

bluestream, are you referring to an auto-salvage yard? yes i had actually considered that as well. my major issue is i am unknowing as to whether there are any special tools required to pull this cable off, and replace it?

i have looked all over the net for a graphical rendering, but not having much luck. when i do this work, i am going to take photos. yes might be a trivial task, but to me, i like knowing what i am getting into.

Regards,
JMM

I doubt you need any special tools for this job. Go to the auto-wrecker (or u-pull) and remove the part yourself. That way you will know whats involved. Hopefully, they have some truck up high with east acess,
