GEM compatibility???

I have eliminated the ignition switch as causing the problem with my window/wiper/int light problem. So seems like the next step is the GEM. Do I need one specifically for my 95 Ex or would other second gen GEMs work? or a certain code.

95 or 96 ohv should work, but not others as the 95-96 v6 models had a vacuum disconnect in the front axle

now, if its 2wd, then 95-97 ohv v6 2wd and v8 AWD GEM's should work. after 97 they change the transfercase behavior and speed sensor signals

Yours will have a number on it. Those two years should work. There may even be other years that will work. With different options you may have to have it programmed at a garage...

The GEM is married to the ECM. If you use a GEM out of another vehicle, even if it's the "same", you will have to take the vehicle to a dealer to have the replacement GEM programmed to your ECM.

Also, have you tried the multi-function switch (turn signal/wiper)? It's a common problem on 2nd gen's, and it can cause all sorts of wierd electrical problems. Many have even been known to start smoking.

clean and reseat.... hopefully you have tested your problems with a meter to determine the cause.

But would it affect the power windows. I still have turn signals, and headlights. I had the multifunction switch go bad on my 96 Limited.

probably not..... but do actually know what your problem is???? "affects the power windows" is a symptom not a cause.

The problem is that I have no power windows, no wipers/washer, or interior lights. It comes and goes. Sometimes I will have no problems then next moment I have none of the above. I have traced the circuits with a 95 Ex electrical manual, to either the ignition switch or the GEM. I have tested the ignition switch, using procedures in the manual and it checks out good. so next step is the GEM.
Once the snow stops flying, I will get out and clean the contacts and reset the connectors.

But those are really just symptoms of a problem. An example of the "problem" would be "I get no ground coming out of the GEM on pin XX".... anyway, maybe replacing a component will solve your issue(s)..... maybe. Don't send the snow up here, we're finished with that stuff...
