Gen 2 headlight upgrade

I installed the headlights over the weekend. Here is a sneak peak of what they look like:

And here is a link to the album that I am keeping the pictures in:

Headlight pictures

Stay tuned for the comparative pics to the stock lights. They are better! I need to fine tune the alignment before I take the pics though.

Be patient, I will finish this at some point ;)

Great truck realy like the lights and the sas.

2. Install relays to power the lights from the battery

Sorry for digging up an old thread but I was looking into this kit myself. Are you saying that this kit is not plug and play?

The kit is plug and play. The relay mod is for brighter lights, and to make your low beams stay on with your high beams.

Video of the same setup

i bought same lights of ebay
they come standard with 35w hid
i bought a 55w Hid kit and 6000k bulbs
By the way its only the ballast that changes from 35 to 55 the globes remain the same, they just work harder.
there is no such thing as a 35w,55w,75w globe the brightness is determined by the temp 4600k,6000k,8000k10000k
anything above 6000k is too blue and you actually cant see as well with them

Yes You MUST relay your lights, they are much brighter than if you dont
this goes for spotties driving light ect

I do NOT have spot lights just the projectors with hids

Here is 2 videos out on Nullabour plains Western Australia

Dont know why titles refer to honda ??????

I stopped and adjusted high beam up a bit and was seeing at least 1 kilometer down the road.

and just for general interest
video passing a b double and finding out a 4wd and caravan in front of it
Stock 4.0 sohc with 200k on clock.
round trip 5500 km and didnt burn a drop of oil.
better than a prado i had and a dodge nitro that ran out of puff at 130k/hr doing similar passing

and she was still pullin LOL
Best 4wd i ever had
Trev

Please get me a deal like that for headlights.. :D

Or tell me if your selling yours. Lol.

I am certainly not selling mine. Just keep an eye on Ebay. They come up every once in a while. The trick is to make sure that the "damage" is something you can live with. In my case I had no problem with the low beam side halo ring being out. I just dissconnected the same on onthe other side to ballance it out.

Yeah, I wouldn't care about something like that. If anything, I'd add LEDs behind the halo or something.

Do you have pics of the light output with those on?
You posted stock, but never with the aftermarkets. And, HIDs or regular bulbs? Will HIDs even fit in those housings?

I'll try to orginize and post up the other light outputs. The HID's will use an H1 bulb that is meant to fit where a HID bulb would normally be so fitment is not an issue. The main issue I have seen mentioned many times is that the kernal of light generated by the HID bulbs is not exactly positionied where the filliment of the Halogen bulbs are. This reportedly causes the light output to "glare" in the faces of oncoming traffic. Of course these reports are also by the same people who would make you think that there is practically no difference between stock headlights and these headlights which is total BS! These give MUCH better light output without blinding oncoming traffic.

As far as your question about "light putput with thoes on", I take it you are referring to the LED's and the high beam CCFL "halo lights". I'll make sure to get some. It is not much. Certainly not enough to do more than single digit MPH.

Oh, I meant with those housing on the truck. Not the Halo's and such.
I'm just curious if the projectors in those after market housings are any good.

They are much better. Definatly worth it especially if you get a good price.

I got derailed when I started thie thread and I think I need to start the pictures again from scratch. I will use my wifes 96 Explorerer as the base line to compare to. Just gotta get enough motovation to take all of the pictures and swap in the HID's and the 100W halogen bulbs I have for the new headlights.

Dang, sounds good.

I kind of feel like those lights look tacky on the Explorers. Too obvious that they're after market. But if they actually have proper cut offs with HIDs installed, then I would love to buy a set.

I am planning on getting these light kit and install HID's also. My question is, how were you able to install the HID's on them? I ask only be ause it looks like they have rubber bulb covers for the low beam. I wanted to find out how I could drill a hole on the cover to install the HID bulb. Or is there another way. Thanks in advance!

??? Rubber bulb covers? Were you responding to someone else?

I messaged the eBay seller and he informed me that the bulb cover for the low beam (on back) is rubber. Is it different otherwise? If so, can you maybe post a picture of how you were able to install the HID's into these lights? Thanks!

EDIT: Just an FYI, I am not new to HID's or headlight retrofits. My hubby and I have done several on our Audis, older Bimmers, my old Boxster and my hubby's 996. Weve done them in our Ducatis and my old CBR600RR as well. I was just caught off guard by the seller claiming that the bulb covers on the back of these headlights were made of rubber hence the inquiry.

I have yet to install the HID's in them. From the back side they appear to have simmilar wires and clearance requirements, but it sounds like you have ALLOT more experience with these. The headlights do have rubber covers that seal up the area where the bulb mounts, but I do not anticipate that this will cause any problems.

Ok thanks! If I get mine and install the HID's before you do, I will create a DIY and link it to this thread. Thanks again!
