OK so Gen 2 vs. Gen 3 What does everyone like and dislike about the models? Pro's vs Con's things. I'm debating to get a last model year Gen 2 fully loaded or a gen 3 base model.
I'm currently in the same boat as you. I was originally leaning towards a 2nd Gen because of the 5.0, but now I'm leaning towards a 3rd gen because of the 3rd row seat.
Gen 2:
Pro's:
-5.0L Windsor 302
-Solid Rear Axle
-4r70w tranny on 5.0 is rock solid
-VERY reliable
Con's:
-slightly rougher ride due to solid rear
-no 3rd row seat
-wierd height to use running boards with
-Radio displays are known to break
-no 4WD available with V8
3rd gen
Pro's:
-3rd row seat
-IFS/IRS for smoother ride
-available 4WD with V8
-Roll Stability Control
-taller ride height
Con's:
-5r55e tranny sucks
-back flip-up is known to crack
-potential rear end whine
-not as good for off roading due to independent rear suspension
Gen 2, because as you go along you will want to make mods that you can't do on a 3rd gen. I have a 3rd gen, no regrets, but a 2nd gen would be your best bet in my opinion.
