Ford wants to replace my Frightenstones with General Ameri-600s. Are these tires any good? They look like a damn highway tire not an all-terrain tire. What's up with that? Is Ford trying to say that I shouldn't take my Exploder off the road, or is it the fact that highway tires are normally cheaper (especially for Ford) than all-terrains? I once heard a retired Ford executive say that Ford has three requirements in tires: cheap, black, and round. Maybe these Generals fit their requirements better than mine. Ok, time to step off my soapbox.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Nate

You get your pick of a replacement tire... and that definetly wouldn't be mine! Of course Ford wants to keep it cheap... every dollar that the reimburse for the tires comes out of their pocket.

I was told by Ford that they will put on whatever they get in. I was not able to choose the tire I wanted from the list and have Ford order them and put them on. For this reason I went to a tire retailer and got what I wanted, put them on a credit card and waited for the check for $550 from Ford (took about 2 weeks). If you time it right with the billing date on your credit card, the price of the tires will be on the card interest free for almost 2 months. This should be enough time to get the check from Ford and pay the bill.

those are great tires.... for the street..... remember most explorers are soccer mom cars and will never see dirt....

why don't you go somewhere else and have Ford reimburse you?

Fundzzzzzzzz! My bank account is a little small right now for tires. I'm in the early stages of buying a house, so I'm saving all my spare pennies for closing costs. And a $500-$600 charge on a credit card won't help qualifing power.

I saw that Ford has a few other "Approved" tires on thier list so I asked the dealer for the Michelins and he said that all he can get his hands on right now are the Generals.

have you called other dealers near you?

Yeah, I did call a few dealers in this area and they have the same tire. There was one dealer a hour and a half away that had some Goodyear RT/S's, but I don't what to drive that far (more of a timing issue with work than anything else).

I think that is just really bad luck, and some really bad dealers. Sorry man.

I've never been to impressed with any dealer here in MPLS. Due to the law of averages there has to be a good one somewhere in the area, but I've never run into one and no one I know has either. When stealers get to big they seem to loose sight of customer service, at least anything this customer would call service.

Anywho, thank for the input guys! I think I'm stuck with the Generals for now, who knows they might not be to bad. I could sell these used when I get into my house and get some BFG's. At least there will be more of a market for used Generals over the Deathstones.

Have you tried boyer ford yet?
(Broadway and 35 dub) I've OK luck with them

No, not yet. I'll give them a call. THX!
